The committee of Kartsport SA would firstly like to thank all the competitors for coming out and supporting us through these tough times. It makes all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make these events happen so worthwhile. 2020 saw 123 different senior drivers come and race with us and 24 younger drivers. That makes a grand total of 147 different drivers that came and competed at our various events throughout the year. A sincere thank you to all of you, your pit crews, friends and families and we look forward to even more drivers next year.
A big thank you also to all the volunteers and officials that come out at their own cost to the race meetings. Without these people we would not be able to hold the race meetings. So once again thank you all. Chris, Steve, Peter, Warren, Linda, Rachel, Dale, Dave M, Dave H, Ian, Rod, Sue, Brian, Malcolm, Gabby, Mario, Arnold, Susan, Joel, Kevin, Sam, Terry and Dylan. Thanks also to the volunteers that man both Barossa and Mount Gambier canteens.
Barossa Go Kart Club and Mount Gambier Kart Club must be commended for believing in us and allowing us the use of their wonderful facilities. Thanks to John and Jason and the rest of their respective committees.
What a strange year it has been for everyone. Covid-19 certainly threw a spanner in the works and put a hold on everything including racing for a few months. I hope everyone stayed safe and is still keeping safe and well.
2020 saw the introduction of the supporter’s awards. It encouraged drivers to attend the race meetings and be awarded prizes to the senior and sub senior driver that accumulated the most points throughout the year. Congratulations to Antoni Ormsby and Samuel Spiteri.
The final meeting for the year was a huge success with our largest entry list to date with 87 drivers competing at the fantastic Mount Gambier karting club. We ran it as a State Championship event for the ‘4 Stroke’ drivers (their only chance to wear a number 1, 2 and 3 on their karts for all Kartsport SA meetings next year). We had a combined weight of 160kgs which attracted 21 drivers. What a magnificent sight to see 21 ‘4 Stroke’ karts leaving the out grid. Check out the Kartsport SA website if you have not seen the videos and pictures already. Congratulations go to 1st placed Paul Pittam, with Samuel Miettunen in 2nd place andWill Rowe placing 3rd.
2020 saw the introduction of our very popular yearly licence which was great value if you intended to race four or more meetings with us over the course of the year. We will keep you informed as to the cost for a yearly licence for 2021 as soon as we get confirmation from our insurers.
What’s new for 2021?
A complete 12-month race calendar.
A two-day race meeting at Whyalla.
We will have more announcements over the coming weeks and months, we’ve got a few more things planned for this year.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 2021.
David Harris.
President Kartsport SA.
